NAIROBI, Kenya- The National Government, alongside development partners, have signed the Integrated Natural Resource Management Programme (INReMP) Financing Agreement.
The event was hosted by the National Treasury and presided over by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
“Signed a USD 126.8 million (Sh16.3 billion) Financing agreement with IFAD to support the implementation of the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP),” said Mbadi, the National Treasury.
How Kenya seeks to implement the INReMP programme
In his address, Principal Secretary, State Department for Agriculture, Dr. Paul Ronoh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transformative agricultural reforms aligned with Vision 2030, BETA, SDGs, and ASTGS 2019–2029.
The programme will be implemented in 10 counties, including Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Migori, aiming to empower rural communities through sustainable natural resource management and economic opportunities
“This investment reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and environmental stewardship,” he said, appreciating IFAD and other partners.
INReMP will focus on land and water management, agroforestry, agricultural productivity, and rural enterprise development, strengthening value chains and promoting peace and prosperity.
Also present were the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Debora Barasa, PSs Dr. Raymond Omollo (State Department for Internal Security and National Administration), Eng. Festus Ngeno (State Department for Environment and Climate Change – Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), and IFAD Country Director Ms. Mariatu Kamara.
CS Barasa said she was honoured to witness the signing of the INReMP financing agreement at the National Treasury, a major step in Kenya’s climate and development journey.
“INReMP integrates conservation and agriculture to restore ecosystems, boost resilience and uplift rural livelihoods. Grateful to IFAD and all partners,” said the CS.
What PS Raymond Omollo said during the event
PS Omollo said the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration acknowledges INReMP’s alignment with Vision 2030, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the SDGs and the Medium-Term Plan.
“I underscored our readiness to actively support implementation through our vast National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) network; mobilising communities, strengthening inter-agency coordination, enhancing early warning systems and ensuring accountability at all levels,” explained the PS.
Additionally, PS Omollo reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to help transform natural resource governance into a driver of peace, unity and socio-economic development across the country.
