The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked the operating licence of Nicco Movers 1 Sacco with immediate effect following investigations into an incident that led to the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student, Eugene Mutuku.
In a public notice issued on Friday, June 12, 2026, NTSA said it conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Sacco’s safety practices and compliance status as part of ongoing investigations into the tragic incident.
According to the Authority, the findings revealed serious lapses in the management and operation of the Sacco’s fleet.
“The Authority observed that the Sacco’s officials and management have lost control of the operation of their fleet, lack adequate safety protocols, and have not demonstrated any efforts to address major safety concerns,” NTSA stated.
The regulator further raised alarm over the condition and operation of vehicles under the Sacco, warning that they pose a risk to other road users.
“We also note that vehicles operating under the Sacco are unsafe and pose a danger to road users,” the notice added.
As a result of the findings, NTSA resolved to revoke Nicco Movers 1 Sacco’s Public Transport Operator (PTO) licence and ordered the immediate cessation of all its operations.
“For these reasons, the Authority has resolved to revoke Nicco Movers 1 Sacco’s operator licence and to cease operation with immediate effect,” NTSA said.
The Authority also directed law enforcement agencies to impound any Nicco Movers 1 Sacco vehicles found operating despite the revocation order.
The drastic action underscores NTSA’s renewed push to enforce road safety regulations and hold public transport operators accountable for compliance failures that endanger the lives of passengers and other road users.
