July Weather Update: Rainfall, Low Temperatures and Heatwaves to Hit Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a comprehensive weather forecast for the week of July 1 to July 7, 2025, predicting a dynamic mix of rain, chilly mornings, scorching afternoons, and strong winds across various regions.

Rainfall Expected in Several Regions

According to the Met Department, rainfall will be experienced in multiple parts of the country, including:

  • The Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley
  • The Lake Victoria Basin
  • Most parts of the Rift Valley
  • Coastal counties, and
  • Sections of North-eastern and North-western Kenya

The rains are expected to vary in intensity, and residents in flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Cold Mornings and Overcast Conditions

Parts of the Highlands, especially those surrounding the Rift Valley, as well as the South-Eastern Lowlands, are likely to experience cold, cloudy mornings and evenings throughout the week.

Temperatures in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro may drop below 10°C at night.

The public—especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly—is advised to dress warmly and take extra care.

Heatwave Conditions in the North

In contrast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya will see hot and dry afternoons, with temperatures expected to soar above 30°C.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit exposure to the midday sun.

Strong Winds to Affect Coastal and Inland Areas

The department has also warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots, particularly in:

  • Coastal areas
  • South-Eastern Lowlands
  • Parts of the North-Eastern and North-Western regions

These winds could disrupt marine operations and road safety, especially in open and flat terrain. Fisherfolk and transport operators are advised to monitor updates closely.

The Kenya Met Department is urging all Kenyans to stay updated through official channels, remain weather-aware, and plan activities accordingly—particularly in regions prone to floods, cold snaps, or heatwaves.
