
NAKURU, Kenya — The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) has emerged among the top performers at the ongoing Nakuru Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, winning several awards that recognise excellence in agricultural research, livestock breeding and innovation.
The institution received accolades across multiple categories, including Best Stand in Research and Development and Best Agricultural-Based Organization Disseminating Safety Information in Agriculture, reinforcing its position as one of Kenya’s leading agricultural research institutions.
KALRO also secured champion titles in several livestock categories, including Champion Sahiwal Bull, Champion Boran Bull, Champion Dorper Sheep, Champion Dairy Goat and Champion Cock.
The awards were presented by Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mutahi Kagwe in the presence of Principal Secretary for Crop Development Paul Ronoh.
KALRO Director Patrick Ketiem received the awards on behalf of the organisation, accompanied by the Board of Directors, management and staff attending the annual agricultural exhibition.
Recognition for agricultural innovation
The organisation said the awards recognise its continued investment in scientific research, technology development and innovation aimed at improving agricultural productivity and strengthening food security.
According to KALRO, its research focuses on developing climate-smart technologies and farmer-friendly innovations designed to help farmers increase production while adapting to changing climatic conditions.
The institution noted that the recognition also reflects its efforts to promote safe agricultural practices and improve knowledge transfer to farmers across the country.

Supporting Kenya’s food security agenda
KALRO said the achievements align with its mandate of advancing agriculture through science, technology and innovation to support sustainable food production and improve rural livelihoods.
The organisation added that its research programmes continue to support the development of improved livestock breeds, resilient crop varieties and modern farming technologies that contribute to increased productivity and enhanced nutrition.
It further credited the recognition to the commitment of its board, management, researchers, technical staff and partners in delivering research solutions for Kenya’s agricultural sector.
The annual ASK Show provides a platform for research institutions, government agencies, private sector players and farmers to showcase innovations, exchange knowledge and promote technologies aimed at transforming agriculture and enhancing national food security.
