NAIROBI, Kenya, June 5 – In a strategic push, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the rollout of a new AI-powered chatbot designed to offer immediate tax support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The digital assistant, KRA says, is tailored to improve taxpayer compliance while elevating service standards across the board.
During a stakeholder forum for MSMEs in Nairobi, KRA Acting Commissioner for the Micro and Small Taxpayers Department, George Obell, highlighted that the virtual assistant forms part of a larger customer service improvement strategy targeting small business owners.
“The chatbot will assist in answering the many queries that micro and small taxpayers may have regarding tax compliance,” said Obell.
“This will complement the ongoing taxpayer sensitization programmes we are implementing countrywide.”
This latest development reflects the Authority’s ongoing commitment to demystifying tax obligations and create a user-friendly tax environment for small enterprises.
Obell emphasized the significance of MSMEs to national development, adding that the tax agency remains focused on simplifying key procedures, from registration to payment, to boost accessibility and reduce bottlenecks.
KRA has been on the move to digitize its systems to enhance revenue collection.
Earlier, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi confirmed the move, in what it says will
ensure the taxman optimizes its revenue collection.
The authority had in the close of the fiscal year ending June 30 missed its revenue target by Sh140 billion, blamed on, among other factors, slowed digitization.
