Leveraging Technology: CJ Martha Koome to Preside Over Launch of E-Judiciary Mobile Phone App

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Chief Justice Martha Koome is expected to preside over the launch of E-Judiciary even as the Judiciary leverages technology to enhance access to justice.

The launch of the mobile application will take place today, Friday, May 16, 2025.

The application — a platform showcasing how innovation meets justice, making legal aid and justice accessible, right from your phone.

Ahead of the launch, Susan Gitonga, deputy registrar of Small Claims Court, serving in the office of the registrar, Magistrate Court, said she was extremely excited as a result of the milestone.

“The launch of this application marks a significant milestone in the achievement of our vision of social transformation through access to justice, which is anchored on the promise that justice ought to be accessible to all,” said Gitonga.

According to Gitonga, the mobile phone application also embodies the judiciary’s commitment to leveraging technology to create a judiciary that is responsive to the needs of its people.

“The application, which is an innovation that was spearheaded by the Office of the Registrar, Magistrate Court, is an integration of the e-tracking system and the e-filing system and is now available on the Google Play Store and App Store,” she added.

What are the application’s main features

She further stated that the application is designed to run on mobile phone devices.

“This application will go a long way in enhancing access to justice,” Gitonga said.

The main features of this application are as follows:

“Our stakeholders, who are the litigants, advocates, and even the general public, will be able to access their case information through the Public Access Kiosk. Through this interface, everyone will be able to access their case information from the convenience of their home,” explained Gitonga.

The other feature is that, through this application, members of the public and judicial officers can all verify our court orders.

“This then means that it will nullify fake court orders that citizens and advocates, or anyone, may use that are not emanating from our courts. At the tap of your finger, you can use the tracking number to input in this application, and the application will tell you whether this order emanated from the court,” explained Gitonga.

What is a course list in judicial aspect

The judicial officer explained that this will go a long way in ensuring that members of the public only execute orders that emanate from the courts.

“The other feature is that you can access the course list and the virtual court links through this application,” added Gitonga.

The course list is the tabulation of cases that are to be heard in a court station every day.

“So, this will go a long way in ensuring that citizens do not have to necessarily come to court, but through your phone, you can download the course list and even the virtual court link so that you will join your court sessions through your mobile phones,” Gitonga further explained.

Another aspect is that an individual can be able to access P and A matters, which are succession matters.

“Through the mobile phone application, you can know if any succession matter related to you has been filed in this court. Another exciting feature is that you can file your cases through this mobile application,” Gitonga added.

The aspect of filing cases is in the Small Claims Court, where, through the application, one can go to the e-filing portal, file their cases, and upload their documents.

“This feature will be enhanced and will be available to all cadres of courts from the Supreme Court to the Small Claims Court,”
