Mystery Deepens After Two Women, Suspected Child’s Remains Found in Machakos Thicket

Date:

MACHAKOS, Kenya — Police in Machakos County have launched investigations following the discovery of the bodies of two women and remains suspected to belong to a child in a remote thicket in Kathiani Sub-county.

The gruesome discovery was made in Kaseveni village, Kithia sub-location, Kaewa location, after residents noticed a dog carrying what appeared to be a human limb, believed to belong to a child.

Alarmed by the sight, villagers followed the animal in an attempt to establish where it had obtained the remains. Their search led them into a nearby thicket, where they encountered a strong stench emanating from deep within the bush.

Upon reaching the site, residents discovered the decomposing bodies of two adult women. They also found a human skull suspected to have been at the location for a longer period, raising fears that the area may have been used to dump bodies.

The shocking incident has unsettled residents, many of whom expressed concern that additional remains could still be hidden within the dense vegetation.

Kathiani Sub-county Police Commander George Kashimiri confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to establish the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, particularly unfamiliar vehicles moving through isolated areas.

Kashimiri also dismissed claims circulating among members of the public that the bodies had been doused with acid. He explained that the condition of the remains was consistent with advanced decomposition accelerated by prevailing weather conditions.

“The state of the bodies is due to decomposition and exposure to heat, not acid, as some residents have suggested,” he said.

Police officers processed the scene before transferring the two bodies and the suspected child’s remains to the Kathiani Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to assist investigators in determining the causes of death and possible timelines.

The remote nature of the dumping site has further complicated the mystery. Residents noted that the area is rarely accessed, leading to speculation that those responsible may have been familiar with the terrain and deliberately selected the location to conceal evidence.

While some locals have linked the killings to a possible family dispute, police have not established any motive and have cautioned against speculation as investigations continue.

The discovery comes amid growing concern over violent crimes and unexplained deaths reported in various parts of the country.

In a separate incident within Machakos County, the body of an unidentified middle-aged man was discovered dumped in a thicket in the Masokani area between Kenol and Koma markets in neighbouring Matungulu Sub-county.

Matungulu Sub-county Police Commander Peter Gichohi confirmed the recovery of the body, saying it had been moved to Kangundo Hospital mortuary pending identification and further investigations.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that may assist in identifying the victims or tracing those responsible for the killings to report to the nearest police station as detectives intensify investigations into both incidents.
