NAIROBI, Kenya- Sandra Mbuvi, popularly known as Thicky Sandra, has announced her intention to contest the Karura Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the 2027 General Election.
The ward is located in the affluent Westlands Constituency, in Nairobi County.
Sandra announced on Saturday, September 26, 2026, that she will seek the position on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket.
Her declaration comes five days after her elder sister, Saumu Mbuvi, announced her bid for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat, also on the NEDP ticket.
The two announcements place the sisters in separate elective races ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sandra targeting a ward-level seat in Westlands Constituency and Saumu seeking a county-wide parliamentary position.
“I am officially announcing my intention to run for MCA, Karura Ward, Westlands, in the 2027 General Election, under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP),” Sandra said in her announcement.
Sandra, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, had previously expressed interest in contesting the Kitusuru Ward MCA seat.
She has now shifted her focus to Karura, saying she intends to engage residents and understand the issues affecting the ward.
“Having previously considered Kitusuru Ward, I have now shifted my focus to Karura Ward, where I look forward to engaging with residents, listening to their priorities and understanding the issues affecting our communities,” she said.
The political announcement marks a change from Sandra’s earlier plans. In May, she had declared interest in the Kitusuru MCA position under the NEDP ticket, with her campaign centered on the message “Let’s Build Together.”
Sandra has previously identified youth empowerment, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, accountability and community development among the areas she intends to focus on in her political career.
She said her approach to leadership would be based on engaging directly with residents.
“I believe leadership begins with listening, serving and being accountable to the people,” Sandra said.
Sandra’s announcement follows closely after Saumu declared her own political ambitions. On September 21, Saumu announced that she would contest the Nairobi County Woman Representative position on the NEDP ticket.
While both sisters have announced their intentions to run under the NEDP banner, the party has said aspirants will still have to go through its nomination process.
The NEDP has stated that it will not issue direct nominations and that aspirants will have to participate in party primaries. Candidates who emerge from the nomination contests will then be cleared to represent the party in the respective elective positions.
