NAIROBI, Kenya,June 8— Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi has urged Kenyan youth to be cautious about their digital footprints, warning that social media behavior is increasingly becoming a key consideration in foreign travel and employment opportunities.
Musalia who spoke in Sabatia,Vihiga Saturday emphasized that countries are rapidly adapting their laws and enforcement mechanisms, with social media activity now playing a critical role in visa approvals and job screenings.
“We are beginning to see a lot of changes and countries are beginning to behave very differently when it comes to their laws and how they are going to implement them,” he said.
Highlighting the growing scrutiny by foreign governments and employers,Musalia pointed to examples such as the United States, where immigration departments have begun reviewing applicants’ online behavior.
“Don’t be surprised, even employers have started looking at what you post on your social media.”
He called on young people especially those seeking opportunities abroad, to be mindful of the content they share online.
The Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary stressed that their energy and ambition are valuable assets but must be paired with digital responsibility.
Musalia noted an increase in rejected visa applications due to negative online behavior, further underlining the importance of maintaining a professional and respectful online presence.
