Murkomen Reaffirms Push to Expand Technical Education Under CBC

Date:

EMBU, Kenya — Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding technical and vocational education in schools, saying the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is equipping learners with practical skills needed for employment, entrepreneurship and Kenya’s industrialisation agenda.

Speaking during a fundraiser for St. Stephen’s Secondary School-Kagaari in Runyenjes, Embu County, Murkomen said the government is investing in school infrastructure to enable more institutions to offer technical and vocational subjects under CBC.

The fundraiser was held to support the school’s expansion so it can introduce additional technical and vocational learning programmes.

“The technical and vocational subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum equip our learners with knowledge and skills that enhance their employability and self-reliance, and bolster our country’s quest for industrialization,” Murkomen said.

He added that the government remains committed to ensuring schools are adequately equipped to provide learners with practical skills aligned with the country’s economic development priorities.

“The government is committed to equipping all schools to ensure learners can acquire these critical skills,” he said.

Murkomen also updated residents on the implementation of national government development projects across Embu County, highlighting ongoing investments in security, roads, energy, education, water, agriculture and healthcare.

The event brought together senior national and county leaders, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria, Roads Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira and Blue Economy and Fisheries Principal Secretary Betsy Njagi.

Also present were Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi, Embu Woman Representative Pamela Njeru, Runyenjes MP Eric Karemba, Mbeere South MP Eng. Nebart Muriuki, Teachers Service Commission Chairperson Dr. Jamleck Muturi, Members of County Assembly and other leaders.

Senior security officials attending the event included Regional Police Commander Stephen Chebet and Tharaka-Nithi County Commissioner David Gitonga.
