NAIROBI, Kenya – Nicole Omondi, the 25-year-old woman who survived a fall from a sixth-floor apartment in Nairobi’s Thome Estate, has alleged that her girlfriend, a police officer, assaulted and pushed her from the balcony following a domestic dispute.
Omondi, who is receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, sustained severe spinal injuries and multiple fractures in the incident. According to her family, she remains paralysed from the waist down and is awaiting surgery.
Family members said Omondi told them the altercation began after the officer allegedly accused her of infidelity upon finding messages from another man on her phone.
According to the family’s account, the disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation during which the officer allegedly struck Omondi several times on the head with a bottle.
Relatives said Omondi attempted to escape to the balcony for fresh air but was allegedly followed, dragged back and pushed over the edge.
She survived after landing on iron sheets and razor wire below the apartment building.
The incident reportedly occurred after the two women returned home from a night out.
According to family members, Omondi called her father during the confrontation, crying and informing him that she was being assaulted. They said the call ended abruptly, and when he called back, the police officer allegedly answered and told him she was “disciplining” Omondi before disconnecting.
Neighbours reportedly heard screams from the apartment, while investigators later found broken bottles and blood at the scene.
A passer-by found Omondi after the fall and alerted emergency responders. While receiving initial treatment, she reportedly requested that her sister and a close friend be contacted, enabling her family to learn about the incident.
The family further alleged that the officer later visited the hospital but left after encountering Omondi’s relatives.
They have called for an impartial and transparent investigation, claiming previous complaints of alleged assault involving the officer had not resulted in action.

According to the family, the officer had allegedly assaulted Omondi on an earlier occasion using a glass bottle. They also claimed that previous attempts to seek police intervention were unsuccessful.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reconstructed the scene and is reviewing security camera footage and building access records as part of the investigation.
Police have indicated that investigations involving serving officers fall under the mandate of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), with the process expected to continue after investigators obtain a formal statement from Omondi.
The incident has generated widespread public attention, with calls for a thorough investigation and accountability.
