NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested several suspects and seized a large quantity of narcotics during an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged drug trafficking network in Kibra, Nairobi.
The operation, conducted by undercover officers from Kibra Police Station, followed actionable intelligence linking a group of individuals to the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the Laini area of Kibra.
According to the National Police Service, the sting operation dealt a significant blow to illicit drug activities in one of Nairobi’s densely populated informal settlements.
Assorted Narcotics Recovered
Police said officers recovered a substantial consignment of narcotics and drug-related materials during the raid.
Items seized included syringes and needles, assorted liquid drugs, unidentified tablets, “Moody” tablets, multiple rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), alcohol swabs, cotton wool, and packets of candles believed to have been used in the handling and consumption of drugs.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the estimated street value of the recovered substances.
Suspects Held Pending Court Appearance
The arrested individuals were escorted to Kibra Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police said all recovered exhibits have been securely stored in the station’s exhibits room pending forensic analysis and presentation in court.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned once investigations are completed and formal charges preferred against them.
Renewed War on Drug Trafficking
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb substance abuse in urban centres and other parts of the country.
In a statement, the National Police Service reiterated its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations targeting drug dealers, traffickers, and criminal syndicates involved in the narcotics trade.
The agency noted that illicit drugs continue to pose a serious threat to public health, community safety, and youth development.
Public Urged to Report Drug Activities
Police have appealed to members of the public to support the fight against narcotics by sharing information on suspected drug-related activities.
The National Police Service encouraged citizens to report suspicious incidents through the nearest police station, emergency numbers 999 and 911, the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203, or the WhatsApp reporting line 0709 570 000.
The latest crackdown comes amid sustained efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug supply chains and reduce the availability of illegal substances in communities across Kenya.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are linked to a wider trafficking network operating within Nairobi and beyond.
