Police Investigate Death of 22-Year-Old Who Fell from Sixth Floor in Kileleshwa

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman who reportedly fell from the sixth floor of an apartment at a short-stay accommodation facility in Kileleshwa.

The woman, identified as Consolata Githinji, was said to have fallen from apartment C601.

A 33-year-old man believed to have been in her company has since been arrested as investigations continued.

CCTV footage obtained captured the woman’s final movements at the apartment block.

According to the footage, a night guard was seen near the lift lobby at about 4:11am.

At 4:17am, Consolata arrived with a man later identified as Tonny Odhiambo, appearing to reach for the guard, who then walked away.

At 4:18am, the guard assisted the pair in unlocking a key box before they entered apartment C601.

In the footage, shadows appeared at the doorway at 4:32am, suggesting there was some commotion.

At 4:34am, the guard entered the apartment, stepping out again at 4:43am.

He lingered briefly, left, and then returned at 4:46am and that was the last time Consolata was seen alive.

What happened next remained unclear, including how she ended up on the ground floor.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrived at the scene at about 6:09am and began documenting it with crime scene photographs.

Speaking during interrogation, the suspect claimed the woman had been standing at a bedroom window and that he had been unable to prevent her from falling.

He also alleged that she had expressed suicidal thoughts.

Notably, the apartment had not been booked under the suspect’s name, but under that of one of his friends.

Records reviewed by the station showed that between 5:56pm and 3:57am, three individuals — two women and a man — had checked into the same room.

Police were expected to determine who they were and whether they played any role in the events leading up to the incident.

Meanwhile, unanswered questions remained as to whether the victim’s death was a suicide or if there was more to the case, as police investigations continued.
