HOMA BAY, Kenya – Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations are in full swing, with the newly refurbished Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay set to host the national event.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, accompanied by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, conducted an inspection tour of key facilities, including the stadium, on April 29 to assess the progress of ongoing projects.
The inspection focused on infrastructure, logistics, and security arrangements for the June 1 celebrations, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the stadium meets the required standards for such a significant national event.
The upgrades at the Raila Odinga Stadium are complemented by improvements at the Kabunde Airstrip, designed to streamline air transport and facilitate the smooth movement of guests.
Additionally, revitalisation projects at the pier and local market are aimed at boosting the county’s economic infrastructure.
Madaraka Day, observed annually on June 1, marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s history, celebrating the moment in 1963 when the country gained internal self-rule from British colonial rule.
This year’s event is poised to be a remarkable occasion, with the upgraded facilities highlighting the government’s commitment to national progress and local development.
