WASHINGTON, U.S. — U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondi, ending a controversial tenure marked by sweeping changes at the Department of Justice and escalating political tensions.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump praised Bondi as a “Great American Patriot” and “loyal friend,” saying she had overseen a significant crime reduction and would transition to a new role in the private sector.
“We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future,” Trump said.
The US President announced that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche would take over as acting attorney general, while Lee Zeldin, currently head of the Environmental Protection Agency and a former New York congressman, is reportedly a leading contender for the position.
Bondi’s tenure was defined by a dramatic reshaping of the Justice Department, including the removal of career officials and a shift in prosecutorial focus toward immigration-related cases.
She also played a central role in defending Trump’s expansive executive orders against mounting legal challenges.
