NAIROBI, Kenya – The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has summoned nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba to appear before its disciplinary committee following allegations of disloyalty and misconduct.
This move comes after the senator’s involvement in several high-profile political events that appear to show her allegiance to political movements outside of the party.
In a letter issued by the party’s disciplinary committee, UDA accused Orwoba of undermining the party’s principles by participating in events that suggested support for other political factions.
The events in question include her attendance at a high-profile welcome home ceremony for Dr. Fred Matiang’i at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on April 17, 2025, and another rally in Kisii Town on May 2, 2025.
Additionally, Orwoba was involved in a radio interview on Spice FM on April 22, 2025, where her political stance was allegedly at odds with UDA’s policies.
The disciplinary committee stated that Orwoba’s actions are in direct violation of the UDA’s constitution, particularly Articles 4 and 29, which emphasize party loyalty, discipline, and adherence to its code of conduct.
The letter claims that her actions betray the trust placed in her by UDA, which nominated her for the Senate position.
Orwoba is being accused of “disloyalty to the party,” as her public appearances and statements have been interpreted as allegiance to rival political factions, including those opposed to the ruling government.
The disciplinary body noted that such actions have the potential to undermine the party’s objectives and its unity.
UDA Party summons Senator Gloria Orwoba to appear before the UDA Disciplinary Committee.
In response to the summons, the UDA has given Orwoba the opportunity to appear before the disciplinary committee on May 16, 2025, at the party’s headquarters at Hustler Plaza.
The senator has been asked to explain her actions and provide reasons why disciplinary measures should not be imposed.
The summons comes as the UDA leadership continues to tighten its grip on party loyalty, especially with the upcoming 2027 General Election.
The party’s disciplinary committee emphasized that it was committed to holding its members accountable to ensure the integrity of the party and its policies.
Orwoba, who has yet to publicly respond to the summons, is expected to defend her actions, arguing that her participation in the aforementioned events was motivated by her responsibility as a public servant.
However, the UDA’s disciplinary committee is determined to ensure that all members adhere to the party’s values and the rule of law.
This disciplinary action has added fuel to the ongoing political drama in Kenya, with questions being raised about party loyalty and individual political ambition as the country prepares for the next general elections.
