NAIROBI, Kenya – Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has condemned her removal as chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight Committee (CIOC), claiming the decision was politically driven and linked to her defiant stance on controversial financial legislation.
Wamuchomba, a vocal critic of President William Ruto’s administration and an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, insisted that her ouster was a direct consequence of her opposition to financial bills she deemed oppressive.
“I have no regrets; I served to the best of my ability,” she said. “I knew they were uncomfortable with my stand against scandalous finance bills.”
Beyond her position on financial policies, Wamuchomba suggested that her removal was also tied to her oversight of the National Land Commission (NLC).
She claimed she had thwarted an attempt to illegally acquire 400 acres of land in Kiambu, a move that allegedly put her at odds with influential figures.
“They may be powerful today, but we will come for their loot. It’s only a matter of time,” she warned, vowing to continue fighting against corruption.
Wamuchomba is among several Gachagua allies who have been stripped of leadership positions in parliamentary committees amid an ongoing power struggle following President Ruto’s political realignment with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
While Gachagua’s camp has termed the shake-up a political purge, government officials argue that the changes are necessary to enhance efficiency in parliamentary leadership.
Despite her removal, Wamuchomba remains defiant, pledging to continue advocating for transparency and accountability.
“I am the woman for the job,” she declared, signaling her intent to remain a force in Kenyan politics.
