Nairobi, Kenya- In 2019, Isaac Oladipupo and Gabriel Olatunji-Legend co-founded Afrilearn, an edtech startup with a bold vision: to provide affordable, world-class education to Africans anywhere.
Driven by their own experiences and a desire to address the educational challenges in Africa, they have created a platform that is transforming the way children and young people learn across the continent.
According to UNESCO, 98 million children in sub-Saharan Africa are out of school, and many more are in schools that fail to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge.
Afrilearn aims to bridge this gap by offering curriculum-relevant class notes, exam practice, animated video lessons, and a personalized learning dashboard.
Their platform caters to elementary and high school students (ages 6-18), making it easier for them to study and achieve exam success in a single sitting.
“The vision that inspired Afrilearn is a world where every child, regardless of their background or location, has full access to quality education and the tools for lifelong success,” Oladipupo said in a recent interview.
One of Afrilearn’s unique features is its dual offering of free and subscription-based accounts.
This inclusive approach ensures that financial constraints do not prevent any child from accessing education.
While most content is available for free, a subscription unlocks exclusive benefits such as downloadable class notes, instant homework help, coding lessons, live classes, and personalized learning plans.
“Our commitment to inclusivity led us to introduce free accounts, ensuring that no child is left behind,” Oladipupo explained.
“Today, Afrilearn is renowned as a free, fun, and effective app for the best school grades, uniting learners from top private schools, public schools, underserved communities, and even homeschoolers.”
Revenue from subscriptions supports the continuous improvement and expansion of Afrilearn’s offerings, ensuring it remains a sustainable and impactful platform.
This model has helped Afrilearn evolve into a driving force for educational equity, turning learning into a joyful journey and transforming lives one lesson at a time.
Afrilearn’s success has been bolstered by support from notable organizations such as UNICEF, the African Union (AU), and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Afrilearn is actively seeking collaborations with educational institutions, governments, and organizations to expand its reach.
Through these strategic alliances, the platform aims to make access to quality education a reality for every child.
