NAIROBI, Kenya- In a move that contributes to revolutionizing digital literacy and entrepreneurship in Kenya, Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo inaugurated a new Digital Hub at Weru Technical and Vocational College in Malindi, Kilifi County.
This initiative is part of the Kenyan government’s ambitious plan to establish 1,450 digital hubs across the country, aimed at equipping the youth with essential digital skills.
A Collaborative Effort for Digital Empowerment
Mr. Owalo was joined by a notable delegation including Malindi MP Hon. Amina Mnyazi, Deputy County Commissioner David Lusava, Coast Region Director of TVET Peter Mwangi and Konza Representative James Matole.
Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between various governmental and educational bodies to drive digital transformation.
“The launch of this digital hub is a significant step towards achieving our goal of establishing ICT hubs in every ward,” said CS Owalo.
The Digital Hub at Weru Technical and Vocational College is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance digital literacy and bridge the digital divide.
By providing access to technology and training, these hubs aim to create opportunities for young people to engage in the digital economy, potentially transforming their communities.
Hon. Amina Mnyazi echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of digital skills in today’s job market.
Towards a Digitally Empowered Kenya
This launch is a part of a larger initiative that aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which seeks to promote inclusive growth through digital innovation.
The government’s commitment to establishing 1,450 digital hubs is a multi agency project led by the ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Konza Technopolis and other players.
