NAIROBI, Kenya- In an exciting new chapter for Kenya’s technological future, Sama has announced a partnership with Homa Bay County to roll out a specialized Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum across the region’s vocational training institutes.
This initiative aims to equip local youth with the skills necessary to thrive in the rapidly expanding AI industry, with the ultimate goal of creating a workforce that can meet the growing demands of the sector.
At the heart of this partnership is the development of a tailored AI curriculum designed to prepare students for the job market.
By launching this program in Homa Bay, the county becomes the testing ground for the initiative, offering students hands-on experience in AI technology and applications.
As part of the collaboration, students will actively contribute to the operations of Sama’s delivery centers, which are set to expand across Kenya.
Sama has been making waves in the AI and tech outsourcing sectors, and this move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening Kenya’s position as a tech hub in Africa.
With plans to double its workforce, Sama is keen on boosting local employment while simultaneously enhancing Kenya’s standing in the global AI landscape.
This initiative aligns with the country’s broader goal of fostering innovation and preparing its youth for emerging opportunities.
Governor Gladys Wanga expressed her excitement over the partnership, underscoring the potential of Homa Bay as a thriving investment destination for the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry.
She pointed to the county’s existing infrastructure, which includes reliable electricity, high-speed internet, and ready-to-use office spaces, as key elements that make Homa Bay an attractive location for tech ventures.
Kenya’s rich talent pool, particularly among the youth, offers the potential to mirror the success of established BPO sectors in countries like India and Poland.
The collaboration sets the stage for Homa Bay to become a center for tech outsourcing, empowering its youth and connecting them with global opportunities in AI.
Sama’s Vice President of Global Delivery, Annepeace Alwala, echoed the optimism, praising Homa Bay County’s commitment to supporting the company’s expansion beyond Nairobi.
She highlighted that the creation of an AI value chain delivery center in Homa Bay is expected to employ 350 young individuals under the Sama Impact program.
This partnership not only provides students with essential AI skills but also paves the way for economic growth in Homa Bay.
Sama’s ambition to expand throughout Kenya could be the catalyst for a new wave of tech innovation and job creation.
