NAIROBI, Kenya — Planning to improve your KCSE grades in 2025? The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has just released crucial details for candidates looking to sit for the July series of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Targeting repeaters, private candidates, and adult learners, this series is all about giving a second chance.
“After stakeholder consultations, I wish to announce that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of KCSE to be administered in July every year,” said the CS. ynews.digital/headline-3/kne…
Here’s the deal: registration opens on Monday, January 27, 2025, and closes on Friday, February 21, 2025. So, if you’re considering signing up, mark those dates in red on your calendar.
The cost of registering for the July series is Sh7,200, and candidates must pay through E-Citizen during registration.
The process is pretty straightforward. Head to your County Director of Education (CDE) office for registration. For candidates in Nairobi, the coordination will happen at KNEC’s New Mitihani House in South C.
All candidates must bring proof of their previous KCSE registration—whether it’s from last year or a decade ago.
Eligibility doesn’t discriminate based on how much time has passed since your last attempt.
For subjects with project components, like Art and Design or Computer Studies, candidates must declare the sub-county where they’ll complete their projects during registration.
The July series has two main phases: project work and exams. Projects in subjects such as Agriculture, Metalwork, and Building Construction will run from January to July 2025, while theory and practical papers will be administered between July 1 and August 1, 2025.
Theory exams and practicals will be conducted at county-level centers identified by CDEs, while project work will take place at sub-county locations.
Candidates must present valid identification—National ID, birth certificate, or passport—when accessing exam centers.
For those repeating fewer than seven subjects, a results slip will be issued, while candidates repeating seven or more will receive a KCSE certificate.
KNEC has emphasized the importance of personal responsibility during the process.
Candidates must confirm their registration details and stay updated on exam venues and rehearsal schedules through their respective CDE offices.
