Kilifi Anti-Narcotics Raid Nets Two Suspects, Cannabis Worth Sh4.2m Seized

Date:

KILIFI, Kenya — Detectives have arrested two suspects in Kilifi County following an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation that led to the recovery of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh4.2 million.

The operation was conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit based in Kilifi, who raided a residential house in the Kisumu Ndogo area of Kilifi town.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the raid was based on intelligence gathered on suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.

Drugs concealed in sacks

During the operation, detectives found two and a half sacks of cannabis sativa wrapped in brown khaki paper.

The consignment weighed about 142 kilograms and was reportedly ready for distribution in the local market.

The suspects, identified as Eisha Mzungu Kalama and Jamal Chilumo Chiraga, were arrested at the scene.

Suspects in custody

The two were taken to Kilifi Police Station, where they are being held as processing continues ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police said the seized narcotics have been secured as exhibits, as investigations continue into what is suspected to be a wider trafficking network.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said it is pursuing leads to establish whether the suspects are part of a larger drug distribution syndicate operating along the Coast region.

Crackdown on coastal drug trade

Security agencies have in recent months intensified operations targeting drug trafficking networks along Kenya’s coastal counties, which have long been identified as key transit and distribution routes.

Authorities say intelligence-led operations remain central to dismantling supply chains and disrupting local distribution networks.

Ongoing investigations

Investigators are expected to question the suspects further as they seek to trace the origin and intended distribution points of the seized narcotics.

Police have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help curb drug trafficking and related criminal activity in the region.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
