BUSIA, Kenya – As Kenya joins the rest of the globe this Sunday, May 11, 2025, in celebrating Mother’s Day, in the quiet heart of Samia in Busia County, a young woman has risen with both grace and grit to become a symbol of hope, beauty, and transformation.
Meet Jane Brown Bwire, only 24 years old, is not just walking a runway—she is walking a purpose-driven path that touches lives far beyond the glittering stage.
Crowned as the current Miss Tourism Busia County, Jane has earned several modelling titles—each representing not just her elegance but her deep sense of responsibility to uplift and serve her community. Her journey is the definition of beauty with a purpose.
Jane is currently pursuing a diploma in general agriculture at Bungoma National Polytechnic, driven by a vision to equip rural communities with sustainable farming practices and food security solutions.
Her academic work is deeply intertwined with her community development goals, especially for young women and smallholder farmers.
But Jane’s heart beats loudest for her initiative—the Naburi Care Initiative—Make a Child Smile.
“Through this initiative, I have touched the lives of countless children in Busia County and beyond—offering learning resources, emotional support, mentorship, clothes, food, and a renewed sense of hope,” explained Jane.

Why Jane Brown Bwire has risen as a Jane is a Jigger Campaign Champion
In a recent interview with Y News, Jane disclosed that she believes deeply in nurturing children not just for today, but to shape a stronger, kinder future for Kenya.
Her efforts extend into health advocacy as well. Jane is a Jigger Campaign Champion, fearlessly championing awareness, prevention, and treatment programs for jigger-infested households.
“I can confidently tell you that my work in eradicating the jigger menace, mostly in the Western Kenya counties and other marginalised areas, has helped restore dignity and self-worth to many souls,” added Jane.
To support her many efforts, which include women’s empowerment, Jane also runs a thriving local food business, known affectionately in the community as “Mama Chipo.”
Her entrepreneurship not only helps sustain her education and initiatives but also empowers others by creating jobs and encouraging self-reliance.
However, Jane’s potential is far greater than her current resources. She is actively seeking sponsorship and partnerships to help her expand her reach, implement larger-scale community projects, and scale her business and initiative.
With the right support, Jane told Y News that she envisions
- Setting up permanent centers under Naburi Care for child mentorship and learning
- Running mobile health clinics targeting jigger-affected areas
- Launching school-based agricultural clubs to equip youth with agribusiness skills
- Growing her food business to create job opportunities for more women and youth
- Representing her community and county on national and international platforms

“All I am saying is that I am not asking for handouts but rather, I am seeking to join hands with visionary partners who believe in the power of grassroots change and the strength of young African women leading that change,” she explained.
“If you are a sponsor, NGO, brand, or individual looking to make a real impact through a dedicated, grounded, and inspiring young leader, Jane Brown Bwire is the change agent you’ve been searching for.”
Ahead of Mother’s Day this weekend, Jane says that her story isn’t just inspiring—it’s still being written.
“And with your support, the next chapter can be even more powerful,” she concluded.
