DP’s Seat Not Up for Grabs Until 2032, CS Ruku Tells ODM

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has dismissed claims that the deputy presidency is up for grabs, telling the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will remain in office until 2032.

Speaking at Moi Stadium, Embu, during a government relief mission for fire victims, CS Ruku accused ODM of eyeing the deputy presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The Deputy President position is not vacant. Professor Kithure Kindiki is the current Deputy President of Kenya and he will remain in office until 2032,” Ruku said.

He added that ODM would have to wait until after 2032 if it wants to contest the seat, noting that Kindiki is being positioned for a future presidential bid.

“If ODM wants the position of the Deputy President, they can wait until after 2032, when Professor Kindiki will be ready to move to the presidency,” he added.

CS Ruku also welcomed the High Court ruling dismissing an election petition against Leonard Wamuthende, affirming his win in the Mbeere North by-election.

He praised the court’s decision to fine the petitioners, saying it would strengthen respect for the judiciary and uphold the will of voters.
