NAIROBI, Kenya- Safaricom has introduced a new data package offering speeds of up to 1000Mbps.
This game-changing option, dubbed the Platinum package, targets heavy internet users like gamers, content creators, and businesses that require ultra-fast and reliable connectivity.
At KES 20,000 per month, the new plan is set to deliver unmatched speeds and performance for Safaricom’s home and business customers.
With the Platinum plan, Safaricom becomes the first Kenyan telco to offer gigabit internet speeds for home use.
Announcing the package, CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized that this plan caters to customers who demand top-tier internet performance for activities like 4K and 8K video streaming, cloud computing, and virtual reality applications.
“We are excited to bring 1000Mbps to homes, making it possible to handle even the most demanding online activities with ease,” Ndegwa said.
Current Safaricom Fibre users won’t need to lift a finger to enjoy faster speeds; existing customers will be automatically upgraded to the new packages.
In addition to boosting speed, Safaricom has rolled out a new Family Share plan, designed to enhance the digital experience for households.
This innovative package bundles mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into one solution, allowing up to five family members to share resources seamlessly.
Customers subscribing to this integrated plan can also enjoy up to 20pc off the Bronze plan, making it a cost-effective option for households looking for value and convenience.
This move follows a growing trend toward multi-service packages that meet the digital needs of modern families, offering flexibility and better control over internet usage across multiple devices.
The company added over 3,000 kilometers of fibre in the past year, bringing its total coverage to more than 17,000 kilometers nationwide.
This expansion led to an impressive 110,000 new connections, with over 370,000 homes and 32,000 businesses now benefiting from fast and reliable internet.
Looking ahead, Safaricom plans to carry out estate clinics aimed at addressing congestion in high-demand areas.
The company also promises to roll out competitive 4G and 5G solutions for regions outside its current fibre coverage, further broadening access to high-speed internet across the country.
