SOTIK, Kenya- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially commissioned new sub-county offices in Sotik, Bomet County, in a move aimed at bringing investigative services closer to residents and strengthening access to justice.

The facility, constructed through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), was commissioned on Friday by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin.

The event was also attended by Sotik MP Francis Sigei, senior government officials, security officers and local residents.

Speaking during the commissioning, Kanja said the new offices reflect the government’s commitment to improving policing infrastructure and ensuring that investigative services are easily accessible to communities.

“Every community deserves to live in peace. Every victim deserves timely justice, and every citizen deserves the confidence that investigators are within reach,” Kanja said.

The Inspector General added that continued investment in modern policing facilities, specialised training and technology is essential to improving the National Police Service’s operational capacity and its response to emerging security threats.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin said the commissioning represented more than the opening of a new building, describing it as an investment in public safety, accessible justice and more responsive investigations.

“Security is a shared responsibility. It is the foundation upon which families thrive, children pursue education, businesses flourish and communities prosper,” Amin said.

He urged residents of Sotik to work closely with detectives by volunteering information that could help prevent and solve crimes.

“You, the people of Sotik, are our eyes and ears. Together, we are stronger,” he said.

Amin also said the DCI continues to enhance intelligence-led investigations, forensic capabilities and the use of technology to combat emerging crimes, including cybercrime, financial crime, terrorism financing, money laundering and narcotics trafficking.

Sotik MP Francis Sigei welcomed the commissioning, saying the project would improve investigative capacity and bring essential DCI services closer to residents of Sotik and neighbouring communities.

After the ceremony, the leaders toured the new offices and met officers who will be stationed at the facility.

The government says the establishment of the Sotik Sub-County DCI offices forms part of broader efforts to expand security infrastructure, improve investigative capacity and strengthen collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public.
