NAIROBI, Kenya- Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed social media personality and philanthropist Mercy Nashipai Legilisho, popularly known as Mercy Masai, to the party as she prepares to contest the Kajiado County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua, in a message welcoming Masai to the party, said she had made the right decision by joining DCP and urged her to continue listening to the people of Kajiado.
“Welcome to DCP Party Mercy Nashipai Legilisho (Mercy Masai) as you plan your bid for the position of Woman Representative for Kajiado County,” Gachagua said.
“You have done the right thing, to listen to the people of Kajiado and join them in their Party of choice, a Party that listens to them and carries the aspirations of the people of Kenya.”
Masai enters Kajiado political race
Masai formally announced her intention to contest the Kajiado Woman Representative position in May 2026, marking her transition from social media activism and community initiatives into elective politics.
She hails from Nkama in Oloitoktok, Kajiado County, and has described herself as a psychologist, farmer and community activist.
She is also associated with the Mercy Mission Foundation, which she says she has run since 2020.
Her stated political agenda includes improving access to education and healthcare, empowering women and young people and addressing challenges affecting communities in Kajiado. She has also spoken against clan and tribal divisions in local politics.
From social media to politics
Masai has built a substantial public profile through social media and philanthropic activities.
She has also been involved in farming and business ventures, with her public profile growing significantly before her entry into politics.
Her decision to seek elective office has generated considerable interest online, with supporters pointing to her community work while critics have questioned her political experience.
