KIAMBU, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to hold a public rally in Kikuyu Constituency this Saturday, following a meeting with local leaders from the DCP.
In a statement issued Tuesday morning, the DCP leader said he had accepted an invitation from grassroots leaders to address residents at Kikuyu Township on April 11 at 1:00 PM.
Gachagua noted that the rally will also bring together key figures from the United Alternative Government, whom he has invited to attend the event, signalling a show of unity within the opposition ranks.
The planned gathering comes amid rising political tensions in the area, with Gachagua dismissing threats and affirming that the meeting will proceed as scheduled.
He emphasized that the Kikuyu Constituency, like all parts of Kenya, is governed by constitutional rights, including the freedom of assembly and association.
“Every Kenyan has a right to gather and express themselves peacefully under the law,” he said, adding that the rally would be conducted within the confines of the Constitution.
Local DCP leaders, according to Gachagua, have pledged to ensure the safety of attendees during the event.
The rally is expected to draw significant political attention, marking one of the key opposition mobilization efforts in the Mt. Kenya region in recent weeks.
Gachagua maintained that the movement he leads remains focused on what he described as a broader national agenda, insisting that planned activities across the country will continue uninterrupted.
