NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made on Friday through a gazette notice, stating:
“It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, the 31st March, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.”
Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
The holiday signifies the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Muslims around the globe.
On this day, Muslims come together for special prayers, enjoy festive meals, and exchange gifts. It is a time for gratitude, charity, and strengthening bonds within the community.
The declaration ensures that Kenyans of all faiths have the opportunity to celebrate with their Muslim friends and family while recognizing the cultural and religious diversity in the country.
Kenyans are encouraged to embrace the spirit of togetherness, respect, and unity during this celebration.
