NAIROBI, Kenya- Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced a major restructuring within the party leadership, moving Hezron Obaga from the powerful position of Secretary General to the newly created role of Party Executive Director as the outfit seeks to strengthen its national operations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The changes were unveiled during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Nairobi on Sunday, where the party also proposed Nyandarua Senator John Methu as the Secretary General designate.
According to the party, Obaga will now oversee the party’s administrative and operational structures in his new role as Executive Director, working alongside deputy executive director Brenda Banjara from Busia County.
“NEC has proposed and brought in Senator John Methu of Nyandarua as the Secretary General designate to help Secretary General Mr. Hezron Obaga who takes the position of the party executive director,” the statement read.
The reshuffle comes at a time when DCP says it is witnessing rapid growth across the country following increased political realignments and rising interest from aspirants seeking elective seats under the party ticket.
Gachagua said the party has already internally registered more than 4.5 million members nationwide and attracted thousands of aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political analysts view Obaga’s redeployment as part of broader efforts by DCP to professionalise its structures and separate political mobilisation from day-to-day party management as the outfit expands nationally.
Obaga has been among key figures involved in building the party structures following Gachagua’s fallout with President William Ruto and his eventual exit from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The latest changes also signal DCP’s intention to strengthen its grassroots machinery as competition for influence within the opposition camp intensifies ahead of the next General Election.
