OL KALOU, Kenya-Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary-General John Methu has expressed confidence that the party will win the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, describing the contest as a defining moment for the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Ol Kalou, Methu said DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho was on course for victory, arguing that residents were determined to vote for change.
Methu said the by-election was about more than electing a new Member of Parliament, claiming it presented an opportunity to restore the dignity of the Kikuyu community.
“On July 16, we are going to restore the dignity of the Kikuyu community,” he told supporters, urging voters to turn out in large numbers.
The DCP official accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of neglecting the interests of the Mt Kenya region and said the by-election would send a strong political message ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Ol Kalou race has emerged as one of the country’s most closely watched by-elections, pitting DCP against the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in what political observers see as an early test of support in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
DCP has fielded Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who is backed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and senior party leaders. UDA is represented by Samuel Muchina Nyaga, while Wilson Kigwa is contesting on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Senior leaders from both DCP and UDA have intensified campaigns in the constituency, with the ruling party highlighting ongoing government development projects while the opposition has framed the contest as a referendum on the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Methu said DCP leaders would continue criss-crossing the constituency in the days leading up to the vote, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory when residents head to the polls on July 16.
