As the world marked Mother’s Day, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga shared a deeply personal reflection on the loss of his mother, describing it as the most painful experience of his life.
Speaking during the commemorations, Oburu opened up about the enduring grief he still carries, years after her passing, while also extending warm wishes to mothers across the world.
“My mum was a very special person,” he said.
“When I lost my mum, I have never ever felt pain as I felt. Anybody else, including my father. The only person I still feel a bigger loss in my heart is my mum. I love mothers. And I wish them a very, very successful Mother’s Day.”
His remarks struck an emotional tone, resonating with many who also use the day to remember departed parents while celebrating those still alive.
The ODM party, led by the Orange Democratic Movement, also joined in celebrating mothers across Kenya and beyond, with leaders highlighting their central role in families and society.
Mother’s Day, observed globally, is often marked by tributes, messages of gratitude, and personal reflections like Oburu’s, which underline both celebration and remembrance.
