“Ignore Politics,” Wandayi Says as Sh4 Billion Fuel Scandal Probe Widens

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya— Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has urged Kenyans to remain calm and patient as investigations into the ongoing fuel supply crisis intensify, cautioning against what he described as a surge in political disinformation surrounding the matter.

Speaking as pressure mounts over alleged irregularities in the petroleum sector, Wandayi assured the public that the government is committed to uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable.

He warned that misinformation risks undermining the integrity of the investigations and misleading the public at a time when clarity is critical.

Warning over ‘political narratives’

The CS took issue with what he termed as politically driven narratives seeking to distort facts about the fuel situation, insisting that the probe must be allowed to proceed without interference.

Wandayi emphasized that the government remains focused on a thorough and transparent investigation into the alleged manipulation of fuel supply systems.

He noted that premature conclusions and speculation could derail efforts to establish accountability in a sector already under intense scrutiny.

Government pledges accountability

According to the CS, authorities are working closely with relevant agencies to piece together the circumstances surrounding the reported fuel shortages and supply disruptions.

The investigations come amid a broader crackdown on suspected cartels accused of exploiting the petroleum supply chain for personal gain.

Wandayi reiterated that those found culpable will face legal consequences, even as he called for restraint from both political actors and the public.

The fuel saga has triggered widespread concern across the country, with fears of supply instability and rising costs affecting businesses and households.

With investigations ongoing, the government now faces the dual challenge of restoring public confidence while ensuring the integrity of the energy sector is not compromised.
