NAIROBI, Kenya — A heated public spat has erupted between Oga Obinna and Geoffrey Mosiria following explosive claims that the much-hyped Majembe vs Mbavu Destroyer boxing match was staged.
The controversy comes just hours after the high-energy bout at Kasarani Indoor Arena, where Majembe secured a dramatic technical knockout victory over Mbavu Destroyer in a fight that had captivated fans across the country.
Claims of a “scripted” fight
Mosiria sparked the storm after alleging that the fight, organised by Obinna, was choreographed to mislead fans and generate hype.
He claimed the outcome had been predetermined, suggesting the event was designed to set up a potential rematch and maximise profits rather than deliver a genuine sporting contest.
“The entire thing… was a scheme to con innocent Kenyans,” Mosiria alleged, questioning the integrity of the bout.
He further claimed there were irregularities in the preparation of the fighters, including failed attempts to secure professional training support for Mbavu, which he hinted may have influenced the outcome.
Obinna hits back
But Obinna swiftly dismissed the allegations, launching a fierce counterattack and accusing Mosiria of clout-chasing and spreading falsehoods.
In a series of statements and videos, the comedian-turned-promoter defended the legitimacy of the event, insisting it was a success that helped revive interest in boxing among Kenyan youth.
He also claimed Mosiria had sought tickets to the event but failed to attend, questioning his credibility in criticising a match he did not witness firsthand.
The spat escalated dramatically after Obinna issued a direct threat, warning he would confront Mosiria physically over the claims.
“I will look for you and beat you,” he said, underscoring the intensity of the fallout.
Fight at the centre of controversy
The match itself has remained under scrutiny, with some fans questioning the legality of the decisive punch that ended the bout, which appeared to land below the belt — a potential violation of boxing rules.
Despite the controversy, the fight drew massive attention and has been credited with reigniting interest in boxing in Kenya, even attracting praise from top leaders.
The clash between Obinna and Mosiria has since spilled onto social media, igniting widespread debate among Kenyans over the credibility of the fight and the future of entertainment boxing events in the country.
