NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has paid glowing tribute to outgoing National Security Advisor Monica Juma as she exits government to take up a senior United Nations role.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a farewell meeting, President Ruto praised Ambassador Juma for her years of distinguished public service, describing her as a highly respected professional with deep expertise in security, diplomacy and governance.
He noted her reputation as a results-driven leader and skilled negotiator who played a key role in advancing Kenya’s national interests.
Ambassador Juma has been appointed Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.
The appointment was made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, placing her at the helm of global efforts to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking and corruption.
In his remarks, President Ruto expressed confidence that Ambassador Juma will excel in her new role, citing her extensive experience in public policy, international relations and national security.
He said her leadership would strengthen global cooperation in addressing complex security challenges.

Ambassador Juma, who has served as Kenya’s National Security Advisor since 2022, previously held several senior Cabinet positions, including Defence, Foreign Affairs and Energy, earning recognition as one of the country’s most seasoned diplomats.
Her appointment marks a significant milestone not only in her career but also for Kenya’s growing influence in global governance, with leaders noting it reflects the country’s expanding diplomatic footprint on the international stage.
President Ruto formally bid her farewell, wishing her success as she transitions to her new global assignment.
