MURANGA, Kenya- DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has declared that the United Opposition will field a single presidential candidate to challenge William Ruto in the next election, insisting unity within the coalition remains intact.
Speaking during a public rally in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, Gachagua dismissed claims of divisions, alleging that certain individuals are working with the government to create the impression of a fractured opposition.
He warned those he accused of sowing discord to stop spreading what he termed as false narratives.
The former Deputy President said all aspirants would rally behind whoever emerges as the coalition’s flagbearer after nominations, adding that he is personally ready to step aside in the interest of unity.
“We will have one candidate, and all of us will support that candidate fully,” he told supporters.
Gachagua also weighed in on regional politics, referencing remarks by Samia Suluhu Hassan on youth activism.
He claimed President Ruto had travelled to Tanzania to “benchmark” on handling Gen Z protests, a statement likely to stir political debate.
On the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, Gachagua urged young voters not to sell their national identity cards, accusing the ruling side of attempting to manipulate the process.
He assured residents that the opposition nominations slated for Saturday would be free and fair.
He was joined by several leaders, including Senator Joe Nyutu, Kigumo MP Munyoro, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, who criticised the government over what they described as corruption and poor governance.
