The launch event, held in Machakos on Friday, was officiated by MCK CEO David Omwoyo, marking a strategic move to empower journalists and promote professionalism in Kenya’s evolving media landscape.
The new platform, accessible via www.pressclub.or.ke, will provide Kenya’s press clubs with the tools necessary to effectively manage digital content, offering opportunities to generate revenue through various channels.
MCK expects that the initiative will equip local journalists with the skills needed to navigate the complex world of content creation, distribution, and monetization, particularly in the fast-changing media environment.
In his remarks, Omwoyo emphasized the council’s commitment to supporting press clubs as part of a broader effort to bolster press freedom, professionalism, and entrepreneurial journalism in the country.
“The Council acknowledges the changing media landscape in Kenya and beyond. It is against this background that we have rolled out support for the establishment of press clubs in Kenya with a view of assisting journalists to align their activities to the media’s paradigm shift, including the emergence of entrepreneurial journalism,” Omwoyo said.
The platform is designed not only as a content management tool but also as a collaborative space for journalists to come together, exchange ideas, and engage in professional development.
It aligns with MCK’s goal of fostering a more cohesive and empowered community of media practitioners.
Omwoyo highlighted that the press clubs have matured over the years, now taking a more structured and professional approach to journalism.
“Press clubs have evolved in Kenya and are now taking a more professional approach. We seek to enhance this by supporting journalists across the country to provide a framework where they can share experiences and skills and advocate for professionalism,” he said. “Such efforts will contribute to a vibrant and independent media sector that serves the public interest and upholds democratic values in Kenya.”
The platform is expected to serve as a key resource for press clubs to strengthen their operations, collaborate on digital content generation, and explore cooperative entrepreneurial ventures.
With MCK’s backing, the initiative aims to ensure that journalists across Kenya can thrive in the digital age while maintaining high standards of professionalism and independence.
This launch is part of MCK’s ongoing efforts to support journalism in Kenya, providing resources to adapt to the digital economy, while also promoting press freedom and democratic engagement through robust, independent media.
