NAIROBI, Kenya – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed frustration over his recent removal from President William Ruto’s WhatsApp group diary, citing it as a major obstacle to his ability to fulfill his duties efficiently.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Gachagua revealed that he and some members of his staff had been excluded from the digital platform used to align the President’s schedule, making it difficult for him to stay informed about key presidential events.
“Whenever I’m aware of the President’s schedule, I always align mine accordingly. But if I don’t know, I can’t adjust,” Gachagua explained.
He emphasized that his absence from certain functions was not deliberate, but a result of being kept out of the loop.
The DP disclosed that he plans to address the issue directly with the President at an opportune time, noting that his removal from the diary had complicated his work.
He speculated that individuals within the President’s circle may be attempting to create discord by painting him as negligent or disrespectful.
“I believe it’s not the President’s doing. It’s likely some idlers around him trying to create mischief and make it seem like I’m absconding my duties,” Gachagua said.
He further alleged that such actions could be part of a strategy to make him appear uncooperative or tardy at key events.
Despite the situation, the Deputy President affirmed his commitment to his role, reiterating that he has always been punctual and available whenever informed of Ruto’s engagements.
He dismissed any notion of conflict between himself and the President, urging those within Ruto’s inner circle not to create unnecessary tension.
“I’m the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, elected by the people, and it is only fair that I have access to the Presidential Diary so I can align my duties accordingly. Without that information, I can’t perform my role efficiently,” he stressed.
The DP, who described himself as a “workaholic,” emphasized that he remains fully committed to his responsibilities and hopes to resolve the issue swiftly.
