Four Killed in Narok-Bomet Highway Crash at Tegero

Date:

NAROK, Kenya — Four people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident at Tegero along the Narok-Bomet highway, police have said.

The crash, which also left several others injured, involved a lorry travelling from Bomet towards Narok and a saloon car heading in the opposite direction.

Confirming the incident, Patrick Lobolia said preliminary investigations indicate the lorry veered off its lane upon reaching the scene before colliding head-on with the oncoming saloon car.

“The impact of the crash was severe,” Lobolia said, adding that four people died on the spot as emergency responders launched rescue operations.

Authorities had not confirmed the exact number of injured victims by the time of publication. However, several occupants from both vehicles sustained injuries and were rushed to various hospitals within the region for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary at Narok County Referral Hospital.

Images from the scene showed the saloon car extensively damaged, while the lorry sustained heavy impact damage on its front section.

Police have launched investigations into the cause of the accident and urged motorists to observe traffic rules and exercise caution, particularly along highways prone to fatal crashes.

The latest incident adds to the growing number of accidents reported along the Narok-Bomet and Narok-Mai Mahiu highways, routes that have frequently recorded deadly collisions involving passenger vehicles and heavy commercial trucks.

The crash comes barely a week after eight people were killed in another grisly accident at Nairegia along the busy Narok-Mai Mahiu road.

The April 26 accident involved a truck and a van travelling in opposite directions when the truck driver reportedly lost control before colliding with the smaller vehicle.

The truck driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Narok Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment, where the bodies of the victims were also taken.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority, road accidents remain one of the leading causes of death and injury in the country, with authorities repeatedly calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
