This announcement was made on Wednesday by Joseph Motari, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.
Each beneficiary will receive Ksh.2,000 for the December 2024 cycle, with payments commencing on January 7, 2025.
“Payment commenced yesterday, 7th January 2025, with each beneficiary set to receive Kshs. 2,000 covering the December 2024 cycle,” Motari confirmed in a statement to newsrooms.
In a move aimed at enhancing efficiency, the government has introduced a new payment method allowing beneficiaries to access funds via M-Pesa through the e-Citizen platform.
Initially, this system is being piloted in Murang’a and Marsabit counties, with plans for a nationwide rollout starting in the January 2025 payment cycle.
“To enhance service delivery, the department is piloting a new payment solution using M-Pesa through the e-Citizen platform. The pilot phase is currently being implemented in Murang’a and Marsabit Counties,” Motari stated.
Beneficiaries from other counties will continue to receive their stipends through six contracted commercial banks for the December 2024 cycle.
The shift to M-Pesa aims to streamline the distribution process, reducing the need for beneficiaries to visit banks monthly.
