NAIROBI, Kenya- There was a heavy voter turnout in Ol Kalou on Saturday as the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) continued with its party nominations ahead of the upcoming parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 16.
Long queues were witnessed at several polling centres across the constituency, with supporters turning up early to participate in the ongoing exercise.
Party officials described the process as orderly, saying the high turnout reflected growing political interest in the constituency and confidence in the party’s nomination process.
“The Presiding Officers will announce the results at the polling station before proceeding to the tallying center. Sufficient security arrangements have been put in place to facilitate peaceful and orderly voting and counting,” DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua said.
“Once more the aspirants and their supporters are assured of free and fair nominations and may the most popular among them carry the day.”
The Ol Kalou by-election was triggered by the death of former area MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, setting the stage for an intense political battle in Nyandarua County.
Security officers have been deployed to various polling stations as voting continued in different parts of the constituency.
The nominations have attracted significant attention, coming just a day after the ruling United Democratic Alliance party conducted its own nominations in the area, where some leaders raised concerns over low voter turnout.
Residents who spoke at polling stations said they were eager to elect leaders focused on development, jobs and improved service delivery.
