NAIROBI, Kenya – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially wrested back control of the Jubilee Party, Kenya’s former ruling party. And who’s popping the virtual champagne? None other than President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria.
Kuria, never one to shy from the social media spotlight, took to X this Thursday practically beaming.
“Congratulations, my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for winning back control of the Jubilee Party,” he posted, striking a notably conciliatory tone amidst Kenya’s heated political arena.
His message wasn’t just polite applause. Kuria framed Uhuru’s comeback as a critical stabilizing move.
“At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions, and divisions,” Kuria stated, “the Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping Kenya safe. The future is luminous.”
This unexpected thumbs-up from Ruto’s camp landed mere hours after Uhuru secured a decisive legal win.
Kenya’s High Court delivered its ruling Thursday, validating the resolutions of the Jubilee Party’s May 2023 Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC).
That convention was the moment Uhuru’s faction dramatically reclaimed the helm, reinstating him as party leader and installing Saitoti Torome as National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary-General.
Thursday’s court decision effectively slams the door on the rival faction led by East African Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege – who had boldly declared herself the party leader during the messy feud.
The path to victory smoothed considerably when Jubilee Chairman Nelson Dzuya abruptly switched sides.
Dzuya withdrew support from Kega’s group and filed a court consent recognizing the legitimacy of Uhuru’s 2023 convention. Game, set, and match.
With political temperatures rising, Uhuru’s win might be a significant factor in shaping the 2027 campaigns and elections.
