The swearing-in ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) followed a two-week delay due to legal challenges.
Flanked by his wife, Dr. Joyce Kindiki, and a host of government officials, Kindiki arrived at KICC at 10 a.m. after a brief visit to his former office at Harambee House, where he was met by Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and senior staff members.
The group then proceeded together to the venue, where crowds welcomed the incoming Deputy President with applause.
During the oath, Kindiki pledged to “serve the people of Kenya” with loyalty, impartiality, and transparency.
“I, Kithure Kindiki, do swear that I will always truly and diligently serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya in the office of the Deputy President…that I will do justice to all without fear, favour, affection or ill will,” he declared solemnly.
Kindiki steps into the role following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
As a close ally of President William Ruto, Kindiki previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration and was nominated for the role by Ruto before being confirmed by the National Assembly.
The swearing-in was made possible after a three-judge High Court panel lifted an injunction on Thursday, clearing the way for Kindiki to assume his duties.
With this appointment, Kindiki is expected to support the President’s agenda and provide counsel on national governance while taking on a new set of responsibilities to guide Kenya’s future.
