NAIROBI, Kenya – A postmortem examination has revealed that Ann Odhiambo Adhiambo, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student whose body was found at the institution’s Nairobi Campus earlier this week, died from multiple internal injuries as detectives intensify investigations into her death.
Adhiambo, a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine student, was found lying on the floor of a room at Kenyatta Hostel within the Nairobi Campus at around 11 p.m. on July 7.
The autopsy, conducted on Friday at the Nairobi Funeral Home, established that the student succumbed to multiple internal injuries.
Pathologists also observed black marks around her tongue, an indication that she may have experienced oxygen deprivation before her death.
The examination further documented bite marks on her abdomen and blood stains around her nose, findings that investigators are now analysing as part of the ongoing probe.
Police are treating the incident as a suspected murder after documenting visible injuries on the body and have stepped up efforts to determine the events leading to her death.
According to investigators, Adhiambo had reportedly been involved in a heated disagreement with fellow students over a missing pair of trousers before her body was discovered.
Detectives are now seeking to establish whether the altercation is linked to her death.
Several students have already recorded statements with investigators as police continue gathering evidence.
Family members who witnessed the postmortem called on investigators to fast-track the case and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“We want to know what happened and see justice served,” a relative said after the examination.
In a statement, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch said Adhiambo joined the institution in September 2024 and was pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine.
He said the college promptly reported the incident to the relevant security agencies, which have since launched investigations.
Dr. Oluoch said KMTC is fully cooperating with detectives and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting the bereaved family during the investigations.
“The College stands with the family in grief and will continue to offer the necessary support during this difficult period,” he said.
Police have not made any arrests as investigations into the student’s death continue.
