NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Capt. William Ruto is in the hospital on Saturday, April 4, following a tragic road accident.
Ruto was involved in a fatal crash on the evening of April 3 while travelling with his family in Taita Taveta County along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway, which tragically claimed the life of his daughter at 9 PM.
Speaking after the visit, Murkomen, who is on a working tour in Mombasa, said doctors had assured him that Capt. Ruto is out of danger.
“I condoled with Captain Ruto and wished him and other members of his family a quick recovery. The doctors assured me that the MD and his two children are out of danger and that they should be out of the hospital soon,” Murkomen stated.
“Once again, I extend my deepest sympathies to Captain Ruto and his family during this difficult time and wish them a speedy recovery.”
Reports indicate that Captain Ruto was traveling with his family when their vehicle collided with a stationary trailer that reportedly lacked proper signage near Voi.
The collision was severe, resulting in the instant death of one of Captain Ruto’s daughters.
“Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident,” the Kenya Ports Authority confirmed in a staff notice, extending deep condolences to the CEO and his family.
Captain Ruto and his three other children sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Mombasa for treatment.
KPA further confirmed that it is working closely with relevant authorities as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
