WASHINGTON D.C. – Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, has met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C., to discuss key issues concerning regional peace, security, and the strengthening of diplomatic ties between Kenya and the United States.
During the high-level meeting, Mudavadi and Rubio underscored the importance of expanding trade and investment opportunities, with a focus on fast-tracking the Kenya-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
The discussions also covered ongoing peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), led by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Mudavadi briefed Rubio on the involvement of five Heads of State in these efforts and highlighted Kenya’s leadership role in stabilizing the region.
Additionally, Mudavadi shared insights on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti, emphasizing the country’s commitment to promoting global peace.
Senator Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Kenya’s leadership on regional stability and democratic governance, expressing interest in visiting Kenya to further strengthen the strategic partnership.

Earlier this year, President William Ruto and U.S. Secretary of State Rubio held a telephone conversation to reaffirm their commitment to addressing regional security challenges, particularly in the DRC and Sudan.
They called for an immediate ceasefire in the DRC and reiterated their support for diplomatic solutions to the escalating conflicts.
Mudavadi was accompanied by senior officials, including Dr. Singoei A. Korir, Amb. Monica Juma, Amb. David Kerich and Deputy Ambassador Christopher Kirigua.
