NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Police Service has announced temporary traffic disruptions across Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) today, Thursday, April 9, 2026, as the city hosts two high-profile presidential engagements.
In a statement on social media, authorities announced the disruption affects several roads, including City Hall Way, Wabera Street (adjacent sections), and the Supreme Court/Parliament Roundabout.
Motorists are urged to avoid the affected areas and use alternative routes such as Haile Selassie Avenue or Uhuru Highway. Police officers will be on hand to manage traffic flow, and drivers should anticipate heightened security and potential congestion on nearby streets.
President William Ruto’s schedule begins with his engagement at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), for a continental summit on “Adequate Housing for All” and the sustainable future of African cities.
Later, the President will deliver a historic address to the Nairobi County Assembly at City Hall, marking the first time a sitting President has formally addressed a county assembly since the inception of devolution.
The address will also provide updates on the Sh80 billion cooperation agreement between the national government and Nairobi County, which includes major urban upgrades such as 40,000 new streetlights, drainage improvements, and Nairobi River regeneration.
Authorities apologized for any inconvenience, emphasizing that the measures are essential to ensure the smooth conduct of these landmark events for Nairobi and the continent.
