NAROK, Kenya – Five people have tragically lost their lives, and several others have been injured following violent clashes in Angara Barrikoi, Narok County.
The deadly confrontation occurred on Monday, sparked by a long-standing dispute over land ownership, with local residents vehemently protesting a land survey.
The violence erupted when the residents, asserting historical ownership of the contested piece of land, blocked the main road to prevent land officials from conducting a survey.
What began as a protest quickly escalated into violent clashes with law enforcement, resulting in fatalities on both sides.
In addition to the loss of life, the unrest saw a vehicle belonging to the land officials damaged by the protesting locals.
The vehicle, symbolizing the government’s intervention, was attacked, further intensifying the already volatile situation.
Local leaders, including elders, have intervened in a bid to mediate and urge all parties involved to pursue peaceful dialogue.
They called for restraint and emphasized the importance of resolving the issue without further bloodshed.
Authorities are working to address the aftermath of the violence and are providing support to the families of those who died and the injured.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high, and there are increasing calls for an independent investigation into the incident to ensure accountability and transparency.
