KIRINYAGA, Kenya — President William Ruto has outlined a series of development projects underway in Kirinyaga County, saying the government is prioritising investments aimed at improving livelihoods, creating jobs, and boosting agricultural productivity.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, Ruto said the government is supporting farmers in the county to increase earnings from key sectors, including coffee, tea, avocado, and dairy farming.
The President announced that 13 milk coolers will be delivered to Kirinyaga next month to help preserve milk quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve farmers’ incomes.
“In Kirinyaga County, we are supporting farmers to earn more from coffee, tea, avocado and milk,” Ruto said.
The President also highlighted ongoing affordable housing projects in the county, revealing that the government has invested Sh15 billion to construct 4,000 housing units.
According to President Ruto, the Gichugu and Kirinyaga affordable housing projects are complete and ready for handover.
The affordable housing programme forms part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s broader plan to address housing shortages while creating employment opportunities in the construction sector.
President Ruto further said the government has invested Sh1.5 billion in the construction of 12 modern markets across the county.
He noted that three markets have already been completed, while hostel facilities for 4,000 university and college students are currently under construction.
“These projects are creating jobs for our youth,” the President said.
On healthcare, the President announced that county health facilities are being equipped with medical equipment worth Sh330 million to improve service delivery.

He also disclosed plans to establish a Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) research centre in Mwea and said the government has allocated Sh200 million for the construction of a Level 4 hospital in the constituency.
The President further highlighted progress in electricity connectivity, saying 19,000 households in Kirinyaga have already been connected to power under the government’s rural electrification programme.
He added that another 9,500 households are expected to be connected in the next financial year.
Additionally, the government has allocated Sh6 billion for the completion of roads in the county as part of efforts to improve transport infrastructure and ease the movement of goods and people.
