KAMPALA, Uganda – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kampala, Uganda, ahead of the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of Yoweri Museveni scheduled for Tesday, May 12.
Uhuru confirmed his arrival through a statement shared on his official X account, saying he had joined other regional leaders, government officials and dignitaries attending the high-level event.
“HE President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, has arrived in Kampala to join fellow leaders, government officials, and dignitaries for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” the statement read.
Museveni secured re-election during Uganda’s General Elections held on January 15, extending a presidency that began in 1986 and further cementing his place among Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
The inauguration will officially usher in his new term, with Uganda hosting several African heads of state and delegations for the occasion.
Upon landing in Kampala, Uhuru was received by Amb Katureebe Tayebwa and Amb Kipkosgei Toroitich in line with diplomatic protocol for visiting former heads of state.
Preparations across Kampala have been ongoing ahead of the ceremony, with heightened security and protocol arrangements put in place for visiting dignitaries and international guests. The event is expected to showcase Uganda’s political continuity while also highlighting regional cooperation within East Africa.
Uhuru’s attendance also reflects the close diplomatic ties between Kenya and Uganda, particularly in areas of trade, infrastructure development and regional stability under the East African Community framework.
